Acacia is hard-wearing, with a grain that runs pale gold to deep brown across a single board. The frame is squared and checked before the finish goes on, and again after. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. The timber is seasoned before a single cut is made, so the piece stays true through Indian summers and monsoons. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 32 x 24 x 10 in (81 x 61 x 25 cm) and weighs about 13.6 kg.
