Mango Wood Hand-Carved Altar Table

A mango wood hand-carved altar table in solid mango wood, cut, joined and finished by hand. Hand carved solid mango wood meditation altar table with lotus mandala design, decorative side table, nightstand, or puja shrine. Finished in honey, with the grain left where you can see it. Mango wood is close-grained and warm in colour, a plantation hardwood that takes a finish evenly. The timber is seasoned before a single cut is made, so the piece stays true through Indian summers and monsoons. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. The frame is squared and checked before the finish goes on, and again after. We finish by hand, wiping back between coats, so the surface still feels like wood. It measures 18 x 18 x 24 in (46 x 46 x 61 cm) and weighs about 11.1 kg.
