A mango wood bookcase 9 in solid mango wood, made the way furniture was made before it was flat-packed. Jil Bookcase. Finished in honey, with the grain left where you can see it. Mango wood is close-grained and warm in colour, a plantation hardwood that takes a finish evenly. Every surface is sanded through the grades until it is smooth to the hand, not just to the eye. The frame is squared and checked before the finish goes on, and again after. Boards are picked for grain and strength, then planed, cut and fitted by hand. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 32 x 14 x 60 in (81 x 36 x 152 cm) and weighs about 32.8 kg.
